Seven people have been reportedly k*lled in Makintamari village, Kaga Local Government in Borno state along the Damaturu/Maiduguri road.

According to witnesses account, the travellers were beheaded with their heads placed on their lifeless bodies on the main road.

In a related incident, gunmen also brutally attacked and slit the throats of 4 people on Saturday in the same village. The victims were reportedly returning to Maiduguri in the evening.

Makintamari is a few kilometers from Benishek where over 100 travelers were murdered a week ago by suspected Boko Haram sect members.

Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam appealed to Goodluck Jonathan, saying:
“We call on Mr. President and all the security chiefs, to intensify security operations through aerial surveillance, to contain the situation before it consumes the region and country.

“On our way from Maiduguri to Damaturu this afternoon (Sunday), we saw a trailer and bus that were burnt, with the occupants slaughtered and their corpses littering the highway.

“Government should rise up to its responsibilities to save the lives and properties of its citizens.”
The governor also added that anyone travelling on the Damaturu to Maiduguri highway, was taking a huge risk.

Gunmen suspected to be members of the feared Boko Haram sect struck a packed college in the early hours of today, Sunday, 29th September, killing at least 50 students of College of Agriculture, Gujba.

The school is located about 50 kilometers south of Damaturu, the state capital. As at the time of filling this report, bodies of the victims were being picked for bush and hostels, where the gunmen shot the harmless students.

NDLEA Discovers 600-Acre Hemp Farm

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday discovered a 600-acre hemp farm at Ode-Ekiti in the Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti, Commandant of the NDLEA in Ekiti, Mr Dele Akingbade said the hemp farm was the largest individually-owned hemp farm in Ekiti.

According to him, the cost of the hemp farm was too huge to be determined immediately.

He described the discovery of the farm as one of the `biggest feats’ of the agency in the state.

Akingbade said the agency made the discovery on a vast expanse of land on July 24, following a tip-off by concerned members of the public.

The NDLEA chief said that four suspects in the matter, all men, were arrested while working on the farm.

He said that the suspects, who confessed to being labourers, disclosed that the owner of the farm paid them N1,000 per day as wage.

Akingbade said that the agency had been making efforts to arrest the owner of the farm through a 24-hour surveillance mounted by men of the agency.

He said that the suspects, who were still in the agency’s custody, would be prosecuted soon.

The commandant said that the size of the farm has drawn international attention, as officials of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime from Vienna had visited the farm.

They Are After My Life ––Amaechi Cries Out

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that their is a plot to "take him out" since he is now seen as an enemy of President Jonathan administration.

He has also sent out a strong message to Jonathan to ensure nothing happens to him.

Speaking in an interview with Sahara TV, Amaechi also narrated his ordeal in hands of the Nigeria police and other agencies under the control of the Presidency.

“I don’t have an aide de camp. I don’t have a chief security officer. They’ve withdrawn so many policemen. They’ve withdrawn all policemen from the commissioners. I feel unsafe. I just know that they want to kill me. Beg Mr. President to ensure that I’m not killed because I’m sure they are planning towards that.”

Amaechi also accused his political forces, including Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and the President’s wife, Patience Jonathan, of using the police to intimidate the people of the state.

“It is not just Wike that is controlling Mbu [state Police Commissioner]. It is not just Mrs. Patience Jonathan that is controlling Mbu. There are some people on the street controlling him.

“They are doing two things under the watch of Mr. President and the Inspector-General of Police. They are trying to intimidate the Rivers society so that they can rig elections. And they are trying to intimidate me and expose me to danger.”

Amaechi described the level of impunity under Jonathan as worse than what Nigeria experienced under late General Sani Abacha. He said there would have been peace in Nigeria had the President not interfered in the Nigerian Governors Forum’s election, where he emerged winner.

He said Jonathan confessed during one of their meetings in Aso Rock.

“While Akpabio was denying it, I reminded him that the President confirmed to me that he participated. Jonathan said he canvassed support for Governor Shema and that he called governors and showed them a video recording of my speech on the oil well that was taken from Soku [in Rivers State] to Balyesa, and he therefore told them that if I won, he would never work with me,” Amaechi revealed.

REVEALLED: I gave Abiola N35m to contest – IBB

June 12 saga would always be one of the most controversial era in the political history of Nigeria. Gen Ibrahim Badamasi, was the military president at the time and he had managed that political process. Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO) was widely believed to have won the election, but Babangida annulled it before the umpire, the National Electoral Commission (NEC), announced the final result. The consequences of that act were dire and the rebounds ugly. Even today, those consequences are still gnawing at the delicate aspects of the country.

Twenty years on, full and authentic story of that period has eluded Nigerians and it is so because, those who are in the know have maintained sealed lips. Well, until now. A book, Ibrahim Babangida: The Military, Politics and Power in Nigeria, written by one of the founding members of Newswatch magazine, Dan Agbese, may have given us a serious glimpse into those dark, troubling days.

One of the most striking, if surprising, is that, against all expectations and imaginations, IBB, the man who annulled the election, had actually encouraged Abiola in every way possible to run. In an interview with IBB, published in the book, the former military president said he supported Abiola “a lot, morally and financially in the campaign.” He said he gave Abiola N35 million to help in the election.

According to him, before Abiola entered the race, he and Babangida “talked of the pros and cons” of Abiola’s presidential ambition. And when Abiola “eventually decided that he wanted to go (for it), I supported the idea that he should do it.”

According to Babangida, he had wanted to make Abiola the chairman of the Transitional Council because he believed his friend “enjoyed tremendous political goodwill. His name was a household name. He had the international contact and Nigeria too had a very good chance of having someone like him heading that organisation.”

However, according to the book, this proposition was dead on arrival as some of Babangida’s colleagues in the ruling council opposed it. Instead, they agreed to accept him as a member of the council but not the chairman.

Babangida, according to the book, told Abiola he would bring him in as a member and ensure that the members of the Transitional Council elect him chairman.

The book further reveals that the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC) had decided that the chairman of the Transitional Council should come from the South West where Abiola came from. But Abiola rather wanted Babangida to announce him as chairman “straight away.” He told Babangida that, that was how his family wanted it because they feared that the president might change his mind once he made him just a member. “Left to me,” says Babangida, “I wanted to make him the chairman. Then he decided and blew it.”

The emergence of the two presidential candidates was equally dramatic. It followed the disqualification of 23 presidential aspirants. According to the book, IBB had regarded the 23 disqualified from participating in the presidential election, as the first 11 among the politicians jostling for power. Their ban thus paved the way for the emergence of new political actors on the stage of the transition programme.

“With the first 11 put out in the cold, there were few runners in the field. Two men easily emerged from the thin crowd of presidential aspirants. One was the billionaire philanthropist, Bashorun M.K.O Abiola, who nursed a presidential ambition going back all the way to the major financiers of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

“He intended to contest the presidential election on the platform of the party in 1983. The party moguls erected obstacle in the way. He quit the party and partisan politics altogether in 1982. He was affected by the ban on former politicians and public office holders and unsuccessfully challenged his ban at the tribunal. With the ban lifted, he joined SDP in January 1993 and was elected the party’s presidential flag bearer at its convention in Jos in March that year.

The other man was Alhaji Bashir Tofa, who, like Abiola, was a national executive member of NPN. He was the party’s national financial secretary. He picked the presidential ticket of the NRC at its convention at Port Harcourt in March 1993.

Both men were Babangida’s close friends.”

Babangida was not quite comfortable with this. He says he feared people would accuse him of manipulating the transition programme to favour his close friends. He even tried to discourage Tofa from contesting the election

“I told him (Tofa) in the presence of about 13 of his colleagues. I advised him not to seek for that election. I didn’t support him. He was not a winning candidate.”

According to the book, even as the chairman of National Electoral Commission, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, had seen the conduct of the presidential election as critical to the entire transition programme and was on ground to see that it ended on a sound note. But the cloud was gathering, as the “National Defence and Security Council did not openly object to the two presidential candidates – Abiola and Tofa – but some elements in the military in cahoots with some of the politicians wanted to stop them from contesting the election.

“Several times the council, pressurised by these elements, came close to disqualifying the two men. Some members of the council felt that neither Abiola nor Tofa was fit to be president. They assailed Abiola’s character. Babangida recalls that “they never saw him as somebody who was morally upright or fit…”

“They tried to blackmail him as a government contractor to whom the government owed a lot of money and they didn’t feel comfortable that this would be their commander – in – chief.”

The book notes how providence smiled on the two presidential candidates and, according to Babangida, the council feared that “ if we stopped it (the election), we would be in trouble again. What was paramount in our mind then was we wouldn’t like to be accused again of not wanting to leave office. So, we said let the bloody thing go on.”

The decision to “let the bloody thing go on,” was actually a fluke. The military, according to Babangida, believed “that we would have an inconclusive election. We thought we should be fair to let it run and when it became inconclusive, then we would take whatever action that we deemed necessary over a re-run or a re-election or something like that.”

The military, the book says, underrated Abiola’s clout, as his followership unsettled those elements in the military that did not like him. “About a week or so before the June 12, 1993, presidential election, security reports indicated that Abiola would certainly trounce Tofa beyond dispute. He would win on the first ballot. The election would not be inconclusive. The report caused some jitters in military circle. What to do?”

The cabal in the military that didn’t want Abiola, was saddled with what line of action to take next.

According to the book, at this stage of confusion in the military hierarchy, former Second Republic senator, Francis Nzeribe, came up with the military-should-stay campaign, which served as tonic for the government. He formed the Association for Better Nigeria (ABN), with Abimbola Davies as his second in command.

“Nzeribe went to Abuja high court on June 10 to stop the presidential election for alleged irregularities and corruption in the conduct of the SDP primaries won by Abiola. ABN alleged that Abiola used money to induce the majority of the delegates to vote for him.

“At 9.30pm on the same day, the court, presided over by justice Bassey Ita Ikpeme, now deceased, threw the spanner into the works. She “restrained (NEC) from conducting the presidential election on the June 12, 1993.”

Her judgment was the first major indication that the transition programme was under serious threat. “Nwosu tried to salvage it. He appeared before the NDSC on June 11 and put a strong argument in favour of going ahead with the election. He argued, quite passionately, that if the election was postponed, the election materials already on site would be compromised.

“NEC had enough protection under the decree to ignore Ikpeme’s ruling. But the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Clement Akpamgbo, had a different take on the issue. He did not support Nwosu’s position. Instead, he advised that the election be postponed in obedience to the order, NEC could then appeal and have the order set aside by a superior court.

SHOCK: 7 Members of Ogbonnaya's Family Run Mad

Unbelievable story of Mr Ogbonnaya Ani who has 7 members of his family insane. He hails from Umuose Urobo in the Uburu area of Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State. The Ani family is being ravaged by the spirit of madness.

Ogbonnaya Ani’s elder brother’s daughter is mentally challenged. His younger brother’s son is in the same condition. Three of his own children, a male and two females, are equally afflicted. His daughter-in-law is not left out. So, there are six mentally ill persons in the family and, perhaps, still counting. Worst still, one of Ani’s mentally challenged daughters is heavily pregnant and no one seems to know who impregnated her...

And before his first wife died, she exhibited some signs of madness.

Recently, Mr Ogbonnaya told the stranger than fiction story. There is no doubt that the madness ravaging his immediate and nuclear families have left its toll on the old man. Sadness is evident in his sunken eyes. He looked frail and his voice quakes in palpable agony as he spoke. But for the magnanimity of a relation, Mr Ani and his household would not have had a place to lay their heads. This is because his mentally challenged son, Igwe Ani, alias Martin Martin, set his house ablaze. And before help could come, the structure had been reduced to ashes.

So, currently, Ogbonnaya and his family are squatters somewhere in Uburu, Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State.

When the reporter visited the family last Wednesday, Ozieme, his beautiful but insane daughter, was hanging around. With her tummy protruding as a result of advanced pregnancy, she looked vacantly into space, perhaps unaware of her environment and condition. A few times she smiled and muttered to herself. When asked to pose for a photograph, Ozieme obliged.

“This place we are is not my house,” Ogbonnaya began. “My place is further up, after Oriebe. I relocated to this place because of the problem that I’m facing. I had a small mud house and I made it good enough for people to stay in before the problem started through my son, Igwe. It first started with Igwe and his sister, Ozieme joined later. While Igwe’s problem started at home, Ozieme’s started from outside the community. When she travelled and returned, she began to behave abnormally.”

In an agony laden voice, Ogbonnaya continued: “I don’t know how it started but we suspected or thought that Igwe joined his mates to smoke all sorts of things. I cautioned him to stop it if he was indulging in such act but there was no difference. We used to beat him to stop smoking to know if he would but to no avail. He started manifesting madness about eight years ago. He was still in primary school when it started; he was in Primary Four when he broke loose. Because of the problem, he couldn’t continue with his education. I cannot really say if he brought it upon himself by smoking certain substances or it is a problem destined to come”.

He said that the problem reached a crescendo when Igwe burnt down his house. “He used to pack all sorts of rubbish and dump in the house. It was impossible to chase him out of the house because he used to wield cutlasses and wood, threatening to harm anyone who gets close to him. At a point, he had outgrown everybody. On a certain day, he set the house ablaze and before people could come to fight the fire, things had got out of hand. That was how the building containing two rooms, a parlour and big verandah were razed down. Thereafter, we became homeless, so I brought my wife and kids to stay in a relation’s place. That was how we relocated.”

Ani said that his daughter was okay until a certain man from Nsukka in Enugu State came to seek her hand in marriage. According to him, the man eloped with the girl, adding that by the time she returned home, she had lost her mind even as she nursed a baby.

His words: “In the case of Ozieme, there was a time she travelled to Enugu to stay with her brother. There she started a relationship with one man from Nsukka and they agreed to marry. She brought the man home and introduced him to us. After meeting with us, the man said that he was going to prepare and come back for the formalization of the relationship. She insisted on going with the man; we asked her to wait for the man to go and come but she refused. We didn’t see the man again.

"When she was coming back, she came with a baby and started behaving in a manner we could not understand. We tried all we could to deal with the situation but to no avail. This thing happened about five years ago and we have not set eyes on the man ever since. She didn’t have the soundness of mind to breastfeed and properly care for the baby and she died. Right now, she is heavily pregnant, she will be putting to bed anytime and we do not know who is responsible for the pregnancy.

"Again, another of my daughter who is married and a seamstress is also behaving abnormally.

"I cannot explain how this problem came into the family. From our parents, we did not experience any such thing. It did not happen to my eldest brother, who had died.”

Terrible: Rev. Father Caught Leading Armed Robbery/Kidnapping Gang

Imeohia Mmaku in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, has recently been under the siege of robbers cum kidnappers, who invaded the community to perpetrate their heinous crime.

On the fateful day, a priest was said to have led some notorious gang of robbers/kidnappers in the deadly operation.

While the operation lasted, the gang sealed off entrances and exits to the community.

Clad in a white cassock, Rev. Fr. James Ani, in company with about eight other people held the community by the jugular and laid siege on their prey for several hours.

It was gathered that they combed the community to see if they could find a prime target to kidnap on which they could feed.

As the siege was going on, a team of anti-robbery patrol team usually on routine checks on communities in the state was passing by and accosted the gang.

On seeing the police team, Fr. Ani reportedly commanded his ‘boys’ to launch offensive. Wielding dangerous weapons, the gang reportedly engaged the police team in fierce gun duel which further sent habitants of the community and travellers scampering for safety.

During the clash, Fr. Ani and his gang reportedly got hold of one Inspector Cosmas Nzeribe and a couple of his colleagues, and almost sniffed life out of them.

They however bowed to the superior firepower of the law enforcement agents leading to their arrest. Before they were arrested, the hoodlums damaged the two vehicles used by the police.

In the end, Fr. Ani and three others; Ugwu Marcel, Obasi Felix and Norbert Eke were arrested and taken to custody. About five other members of the gang escaped from the scene of the attack.

In a chat with reporters, an eye witness, who identified himself as Okey, said: “I ply this road very often and I can tell you that most travellers had had harrowing experiences to share about this place.

It is such a bad spot and when the robbers were arrested and we saw a supposed man of God among them, not many of us were surprised because we had experienced that before in this area. Criminals would put on cloths meant for the clergymen to rob people.

Thank God, this one was caught.”

At the time of his arrest, Fr. Ani claimed that he is not a robber but a priest. However, upon interrogation, he confessed to his crime, saying he was pushed into the crime due to lull in his business.

Spokesman of Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the arrest. He said “The Commissioner of Police has said it many times that there is no hiding place for criminals again in Enugu.

This statement he is matching with actions which are evident in the arrest of the four suspects. Imagine someone supposed to be a man of God, being the ring leader in such a crime!”

Angry Arik Air Passengers Block Airport Runway, Stop Airplanes From Flying(Photos)

Angry passengers, yesterday, blocked the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, in Abuja, preventing planes from taking-off or landing.

The passengers, who disembarked from a just landed Arik Air flight, blocked the Abuja runway because the flight they took from Abuja to Calabar was not allowed to land in Calabar around 5.30pm for safety reasons - the runway lightening was poor, forcing the pilot to return the passengers to Abuja.

The passengers now felt the best way to express their anger was to prevent other planes from taking off or landing at the Abuja airport.

Arik Air spokesperson, Mr. Adebanji Ola, said that it was not the airline's fault that the Calabar airport was closed by the time the flight from Abuja got there.

He said,
“The flight was delayed because there was Very Important Personality movement and there was also some weather issues, it is not the fault of the airline that the plane could not land there. We are amazed that despite the security at the Abuja airport, passengers were still able to hijack the aircraft and hold other planes to ransom, that should not be the case.”

The Director of Advanced Centre for Sustainable Development, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, on Thursday declared that it will be a national disgrace to Nigeria and the military if the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau is still alive.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Olaonipekun said the military was too quick to speak on the issue when it didn’t recover the dead body or had enough evidence to show that the leader was actually dead.

He said: “The Federal Government has not done too badly in the fight, but I will quickly add that not too well. There are two aspects to this issue of terrorism, from my own point of view. Firstly, I think our attitude of talking too much is taking its toll on the issue of security. Before anything happens everybody is talking, the security chiefs are talking, the special advisers to the government are talking, meanwhile these are issues that should be regarded as security information.

“Handling security information is not just saying everything, because when you give all the information to your enemy, the battle is as good as lost. They might have the strategies they are reserving, but giving hasty or too much information might not help matters and now if not a disgrace to us as a nation, with all apologies to the security operatives it might be a disgrace to them on the long run if truly Shekau is alive.”

Massacre: Boko Haram Sect Shoots Pastor And Children, Set Church Ablaze

Tragedy struck in the early hours of today, as suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect shot a pastor and both of his children, then set the building on fire and fled the scene. In Yobe State.

The slaughter occured in the town of Dorawa, only 30 kilometres away from the scene of another murderous attack few months ago, July 2013, when dozens of young students were slaughtered in a school there.

In a statement to the press, the area military spokesperson Eli Lazarus said the unknown gunmen are suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists. He confirmed that, in the course of the attack, the pastor and his two children were killed.

He further narrated that not only the church, but two other buildings in the community were burnt by the terrorists.

In mid-May 2013, Yobe, along with two other northeastern states, was placed under emergency state.

Since introduction of the severe emergency measures, the Boko Haram insurgents have targeted vigilante groups (widely known as "civilian JTF (Joint Task Force)") that were formed to help the military, as well as civilians.

This latest outburst of violence comes after a new video emerged. In it, a man resembling Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau, mocks reports of his own death. The wanted global terrorist, Shekau was believed to be "fatally wounded" in a clash in June this year.

According to PM news, man, Kundus Kazeem has been arrested for allegedly r*ping a 19-year-old bread seller at his home in Ajegunle, Lagos.

Kazeem who claims he had a fee agreement with the bread seller has been charged before an Apapa Magistrate’s court.

He is now facing a two-count charge of felony and r*pe under the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The suspect allegedly lured the victim into his one room apartment at Cemetery Road, Ajegunle and with the aid of a walking stick, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The 29-year old Kazeem who admitted that women reject him because of his physical condition, said nothing was wrong him except his two legs.

He also claimed he slept with her after they agreed on a fee and regretted that he was not able to meet the initial condition she gave him.

Kazeem told P.M .NEWS that he did not rape the teenager as she claimed.

He said before they went to his room, they agreed that he will pay N1,000 for the act and that he used part of the money he had on him to entertain her by buying drinks for her and himself, after which he gave her N400.

He said she became angry and went and told her parents that he raped her.

Contrary to his claim of bargaining with her, P.M.NEWS gathered that Kazeem asked the victim to come to his room and sell bread to him.

She did not suspect anything and took the bread to him and when she entered his room, he locked his door and threw her on his bed and used his walking stick to tie her hands, tore her pant and raped her.

The victim went home and told her parents what happened and the matter was reported to the police and he was arrested and charged to court for the alleged offence.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr M.K.O. Fadeyi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
